Does intermittent fasting work? The answer is yes! Fasting has been used for years to cleanse and detox the body. But there are multiple benefits to this practice. Gaining lean muscle, weight loss, fat loss, and more flexible joints and muscles are just some of the great side affects of this life style choice.
By letting the body have a break from digesting food, which is the hardest function for the nervous system, the body can break down toxins, repair tissue (muscles) and carve away stored fat for energy.
The way these programs work is by intermittently fasting every day for up to 20 hours but usually in the range of 15 to 18 hours. For example you would stop eating by 8pm and not eat again until noon time the next day. Then from noon until eight pm you eat healthy foods and consume your normal daily intake of calories.
With programs like eat stop eat, you take on day per week or one day out of every 5 days and fast for a full 24 hours.
I have been using this program for some time, and as a yoga therapist and exercise enthusiast I have seen my body get more lean, more flexible and more able to rid itself of toxins!!
